Demand for our Data Centre services continues to grow both from existing and new customers creating a real career opportunity for a talented individual to join us at our Birmingham Data Centre as a Citrix & Virtualisation Engineer.

    The role bridges Citrix and Virtualisation from Design and Delivery (D&D) through to Operational support. D&D (30%) requires client facing engagement to understand requirements, design and architecture, implementation and transition into operational support. Operational support (70%) is the support and administration of the multi tenanted Citrix and Virtualised estates in an efficient and timely manner such that SLA targets are met and customers are satisfied.  The engineer will work within a team interfacing with other internal and external support teams. The relationship between teams and mindfulness of technical dependencies and consequences ensures impact to the customers’ business is minimal.

    Key D&D Responsibilities for Citrix and Virtualised Platforms

    Business Engagement

    Assist engagement with customers from requirements gathering to ensuring technical solution designs and improvements are in line with the requirements of the customer

    Design & Architecture

    Provide pro-active audit of customers IT Infrastructure environments using various toolsets to identify possible end to end improvements that will deliver stable infrastructure and associated platforms

    Contribute to the design of platform service and customer infrastructures from conception to completion

    Ensure technical documentation is completed to a professional standard


    Lead on the implementation of improvements and changes to customer IT architecture

    Ensure all projects/ works adhere to established standards and frameworks


    Planning & Transition

    Liaise with Design teams on handover and acceptance into service for all new implementations and enhancements/upgrades to Data Centre Services customer environments

    Support the process to ensure all improvement works, changes and implementation are communicated to the supporting team, and customer where necessary

    Key Operational Responsibilities for Citrix and Virtualised Platforms

    Monitoring and maintaining computer systems to agreed service levels

    Managing incidents and problems appropriately within agreed service levels

    Creating and performing authorised changes to customer environments, attending CABs

    Perform root cause analysis on reoccurring incidents

    Act as a technical escalation point for major incidents related to the service delivery from the datacentre and customer sites

    Scheduled patching of Virtualised and Citrix environments

    Contribute to the continuous improvement programmes (SIPs / technical roadmaps) of all technology platforms across the datacentre

    Assist with acceptance into service, understanding the operational support requirements for all new implementations and enhancements/upgrades

    Engage with third party vendors (such as VMware, Microsoft or Citrix) and escalate when necessary

    Contributing to delivering team performance

    Participate in an on-call technical escalation process outside of UK business hours

    Skills Knowledge & Experience

    The ideal candidate will be self-motivated with a track record of working with a datacentre technology stack and an appreciation of support and service transition. Experience of working in a fast paced, dynamic environment with multiple customers and projects. Candidate ideally has experience of working in a large solution provider with a rapidly expanding customer base.



    • Detailed technical knowledge of MS Directory Services, Citrix and virtualisation technologies backed with practical experience in a corporate environment preferably serving customers
    • Technical knowledge of virtualisation technologies (vCenter, vSphere, ESXi, DRS, vMotion, HA,  SRM, SCVMM, Hyper-V)
    • Technical knowledge of Citrix technologies (XenApp, XenDesktop, Netscaler, App-V, AppSense, CAG, CSG, EdgeSite, Director, PVS/MCS, Thin Clients)
    • Appropriate certifications in core technology platforms (Citrix, MS, VMware and Hyper-V)
    • Ability to troubleshoot complex, technical, multi-site and multi-disciplinary issues
    • Strong background with network, compute and storage technologies in large-scale deployments
    • Minimum 3 years’ experience providing support to enterprise level clients
    • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
    • Extensive technical experience with Microsoft Windows server operating systems


    • Experience of public cloud platforms and administration of them
    • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, MIS or equivalent preferred
    • ITIL qualification or awareness of the ITIL processes
    • An understanding of Microsoft Exchange 2010 to 2016 (Inc Exchange online)
    • Scripting knowledge
